I found a new blog to help waste my time!

Thanks to my daily visit by Cake Wrecks, I've found a new blog to kill myself laughing with. It's somehow affliated with the same people who do the ICanHavCheezburger website. Check out: Fail Blog

Here's some for your viewing pleasure!

To Lighten Things Up a Bit:

Found this new blog that I'm killing myself laughing over. I will never ever decorate a cake again for fear that it will end up on this website and be subject to laughter and ridicule! Oh my! Check out: Cake Wrecks

Here's one that still has me crying with laughter:

Here's what you order:

Here's what you get:

Well, at least they tried. I hope they weren't professional cake decorators!

Praise Jebus!

This scares the crap out of me:

That's what I get for reading perezhilton.com first thing in the morning.

It's amazing how close-minded and misinformed people are, not only in the U.S. but here in Canada as well. This is the reason why we all need to get out and vote!! The type of people interview in the video, you can be damn sure exercise their right to democracy every chance they get. Imagine if all those apathetic non-voters got out and voted - we might be able to overshadow scary voters like this! We may not have video of them during the last Canadian election, but I'm sure they exist and all voted Harper! Use it or lose it people!!

In anticipation of "Indy Jones and the Crystal Skull", Angry Alien Productions brings you a 30 second reenactment of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" starring bunnies!

I like the "bun-o-lithic"!

Why??? Why would someone create this crap??!!

A better question to ask is, "Can I get my money back?" I'm sure Cara is going to post on all the historical inaccuracies that run rampant in this movie, so I'm not going to go there. My question is: did anyone else notice that Roland Emmerich plagiarized himself? Cue geeky sci-fi side.

I love Stargate (both the movie and the offshoot tv series), I will admit this and you can go ahead and call me a geek. I'm a geek. How could you not love a show about an archaeologist who gets to travel to different worlds meeting alien civilizations that influenced cultures on Earth (not that I believe in this theory, but it is a neat idea you have to admit that). In 1994, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich wrote and directed a hit movie called Stargate. Although I give them both writing credit, I'm more inclined to think that Devlin did the majority of the writing after seeing the last few of Emmerich's movies. In a nutshell, a parasitic alien race that inhabits human bodies and lives almost indefinitely (The Go'auld) came to Earth and enslaved the Egyptians and ruled as Pharaoh and the whole pantheon of Egyptian deities. They lasted for a few millennia until they were overthrown by the people they had enslaved. So they flew off in their pyramid-shaped space ships and left Earth alone to wreak havoc elsewhere in the universe (this is where the series picks up with different planets and different civilizations). They happened to leave behind a "stargate" that when connected to other gates, allows people to travel to different worlds. Okay, so what the hell does this have to do with 10,000 B.C.?

Well, Emmerich, in this craptastic movie, uses the whole Egyptian overlords theme again. The Pharaoh does not quite seem to be human and they even explain the bad guys' origins as possibly coming from "beyond the stars". How about what the Egyptian city looks like? Are you just re-using the set from Stargate? I've seen that exact same pyramid before. Hmmm. Give me a break! Geez man, if you're going to rip someone off, don't let it be yourself! That's just pitiful! Have the decency to plagiarize someone else, someone with more credibility than you! Someone who can actually write a decent screenplay!!

Okay, I'm done ranting. Just had to get it out. :) Please, save yourself the money and see something better!

I have freezing cold feet ...

... just figured you'd want to know. Is that a good excuse to stop writing my chapter today? I'd much rather curl up on the couch under a blanket and read a book with a steaming cup of tea by my side. That sounds so much nicer than pouring through piles of books looking for that one citation that continues to elude me. How about, "All my books are still in boxes and I don't know which box has the books I'm looking for, so I can't write my thesis." Didn't think so. Damn, where's the tequila when you need it!

Beat This Tam!

I saw this kid on "Ellen" this morning and wow! One of my ultimate goals is to be able to play "Through the Fires and Flames" on Expert on Guitar Hero III. Yeah, I know it's a pretty lame goal but shut up. The first video is the original one found on YouTube (I think) and the second is his appearance on "Ellen". Watch out Tam, I've been practicing and one day I'll kick your ass just like this kid can! HA!

One of many reasons why I like CBC Radio!

Don't tell my mother, but I absolutely love CBC Radio One! If she knew, she'd smirk and say, "Well, at least you have some good taste. You inherited that from me." At our house the radio was always tuned to CBC 740 (Edmonton), and I've grown used to it. I'll listen to CBC 2 and occasionally CBC 3 (but that gets pretty weird at times), however I prefer to listen to Radio One on its original format on the AM dial (it sounds grittier and more interesting). I usually try to catch "Q" as wells as "DNTO", "Blue Sky" (in Alberta - "Wild Rose Country") and of course, no Saturday is complete without "Quirks and Quarks". Hey, I think the CBC should pay me a cut for promoting their programs!

Anyways, driving back from Yorkton last night we managed to catch a replay of Jian Ghomeshi's "Q". They mentioned a really neat website: www.sleeveface.com. Here's an example:

Neat huh? They've also got a really cool one from Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album. I like the ones from Peter Frampton and Pantera (funny) albums. By the way, if you've never heard of Cibo Matto, you should check them out, they're really good!

A new theme for this blog?

So, Kris thinks I should write about my exploits with the wickedly awesome sport of geocaching?

For those of you who are unaware what it is, it's essentially a high-tech treasure hunt. People place tupperware containers full of dollar store junk out in the middle of a bush (or if they're really sneaky sometimes in an urban center), take their GPS, create a waypoint, upload said waypoint to www.geocaching.com and have other people use their GPS's to find it. That's it in a nutshell! The "treasure chests" can come in a variety of sizes from 50 calibre ammo cans to small watch-battery sized containers (called nanos). Very geeky, huh?

Thanks to a couple of profs within the Department (that's irony for you), my boyfriend and I have become geocaching addicts. I won't say to the detriment of our theses (just in case anyone is reading this), but we've become addicted enough to choose geocaching over other more pertinent pursuits at times.

Of course, we've had a number of interesting close calls while geocaching. Unfortunately we're used to that by now. As for stories, I'll post as they become available. Due to the extreme cold this week, our usually hardy geocaching team has decided to hibernate inside until the weather is better under the pretenses of "writing". I'll let you know how that goes... :)

Happy New Year?

I absolutely love these comics! Frighteningly true at times. Thanks to K for introducing me to them through her blog (The Illustrated Freier).

I swear one day I will post an actual blog, but like all good grad students I'm an excellent procrastinator and am actually trying to get the big T out of the way now that I have time to work on it!

And to everyone out there, I wish you a very Happy New Year with much health, hope and happiness in 2008!
